Replacement for Nicotine?

Wired News: Smoke Breaks Boost Memory As is often the case, a rather inappropriate title for a fairly interesting article. Research on the functions of nicotinic receptors in the brain and alternatives to nicotine which activate those receptors.

Yeah, I heard about it I think last year. They were giving nicotine to alzheimer (spelling?!?) patient to help their memories.

Well, they want to use something other than nicotine. One thing that's interesting about the alternatives is that, possibly, their long-term impact could be beneficial.
Medications have certainly come a long way. Wonder what the long-term effect on humanity as a whole will be...
